Which Dota Map should I Download and play?
This depends on what you want to do/play. Here is an overview for you:
- Dota Allstars Default Map for all purposes, nothing fancy but stable.
- Dota RGC Playable on RGC, enhanced development and adjustments that are dota-2-alike.
- Dota Ai Play offline & with intelligent Bots. There are different Dota Ai Maps for any purpose!
- Dota LoD This is a fun mod for Dota, where everyplayer can pick his own 4 spells for each game. Competitive mode available on RGC.

What is DotA? (Defence of the Ancients)
DotA stands for Defense of the Ancients – a MOBA (multiplayer online battle arena) game. DotA is a Warcraft 3 custom map, playable in RoC and TFT. 10 players join two teams and fight against each other in 5v5 fights. The main goal is to defeat the enemy and destroy the castle.
In 2001 Warcraft 3 was born, and in the same year DotA for Warcraft 3 was created.
DotA has its roots in “Aeon of Strife” a custom map for StarCraft. But in Warcraft 3 DotA got an extreme hype due to the high amount of fun and skill in each of the 40-60 minute games.
Dota is a really hard game, you need hours and hours to master it, but it is so catchy and claiming that every player strives to get better and better! The main creator that is well known in the scene is Icefrog, who joined Valve in 2013 to work on Dota 2.
Beside Dota 2, Warcraft 3 Dota still has its own right to exist. What Dota 1 players say: Warcraft 3 Dota is still much more fun, even if it’s so old! The main game mechanics are just perfect and so charming. People who still play Warcraft 3 Dota know why. 😉
Where can I still play some good DotA 1 games today?
There are still many players who love Warcraft 3 Dota and play very often. The community is not big but still active! Here are the main platforms where you can still play some good Warcraft 3 Dota games on a high level:
Ranked Gaming Client:
RGC is definitely the best place to play Dota games today. A full client, with chat channels, host bots and a reconnection tool. It has Warcraft 3 Dota Leadersboards / a Warcraft 3 Dota League for Dota RGC, Dota LoD and Warlock.
What RGC makes the best platform? Just try it out, what you get is Dota games on a high level with a beautiful community. Haters, Fanboys & friends meet at one place. The thing is the Dota community is small, but because of that you will always meet the same people again and again, which puts more motivation but also more drama into each game. This is the main diffference for me, compared to Dota 2 and it has always been a thing in Warcraft 3 Dota 1.

Battle.net:
In the lovely Warcraft 3 Battle.net of course you can play Dota the easy way with friends or alone. The bad thing is the leaver rate, which makes this a bit hard, but if you join the right games with good Hostbots you can play decent Dota games for quick fun.
Single Player Mode:
The Dota Ai Maps are really popular and many many players want to have it, because you can test things on your own. The Bots really behave like normal Dota players and make Dota Ai to a fun and challenging game! This is perfect to test new heroes, new builds or just to have fun without any toxic players. ^^
Dota LAN games:
LAN games with friends or on LAN events with Warcraft 3 Dota are big fun, also the Dota Ai maps are compatible if you have less than 10 players!
Other platforms like Garena:
There are still some other Warcraft 3 platforms where you can play Dota and other Funmaps for Warcraft 3. Garena is a great tool with it’s own system and after RGC the best option to play competitive Dota.
