Key insight
Capacity scales linearly: total items = slots × stack size. Adding shulkers multiplies effective space (1 shulker = 27 stacks) inside containers—just remember shulkers cannot be stored inside shulkers.
Max’s storage plan
Max builds a farm that outputs stack-16 items. With 33 droppers he gets 45,936 items @ stack 16 (from 297 slots). He swaps to barrels with 3 shulkers each for bulk shipping and cuts chest rows by two-thirds.

Design notes for efficient storage rooms
Use barrels where aisle clearance is tight, chests for classic sorters, and shulker loaders for bulk. Keep stack-1/16 items on dedicated buses to avoid clogging 64-item lines. Buffer with hoppers/dispenser arrays and stage shulker unloaders near smelters or craft stations for quick turnaround.
